OUR STORY
In the state of Arkansas at least one and forty-three children have been identified with Autism Spectrum Disorder(ASD) by the Arkansas Developmental Disabilities Monitoring ( AR-ADDM) in 2020. Sensory processing challenges can significantly affect individuals, particularly children with autism and other developmental disorders. These challenges can make everyday experiences overwhelming and stressful. To address this need, I am launching “AuSome Sensory Adventures” a sensory gym which will provide a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for children to explore and develop their sensory skills.
After researching my community and other areas around the state of Arkansas, I realized that there were not many sensory establishments or activities available for children with disabilities to participate in. A few establishments offer “sensory friendly hours” but there is not a place that is just for them.
My goal is to create a space that not only offers sensory integration activities, but that also provides resources and support for single moms like myself and families navigating these challenges.
